The Separation of Rangi and Papa
Original painting Sold, oil on canvas, 1200 x 1200mm, 2005
'The Separation of Rangi and Papa' was inspired by Sofia's passion for the land and Maori mythology of Aotearoa. She has depicted the sky father Ranginui and the earth mother Papatuanuku being forced apart from their loving, yet stifling embrace by one of their children.
In 2005 Sofia won first prize with this piece at the Auckland East Arts Council Art Competition in New Zealand.
